How it works
Choose whether you want to add VAT to a net (pre-tax) amount or remove VAT from a gross (tax-included) amount, then enter the VAT rate that applies. Going from net to gross multiplies by (1 + rate); going from gross to net divides by (1 + rate) — dividing by (1 − rate) would give the wrong answer, since the rate is a percentage of the net price, not the gross price.
Tip
VAT rates vary widely by country and even by category of goods, so there's no sensible default rate here — check the rate that applies where you are before you calculate.
